The 1, 47,570 square kilometer area of this country is located in the southern
part of Asia. The country is pretty much surrounded by India from three sides
and it also shared a border with Myanmar. The Bay of Bengal covers the southern
part of Bangladesh.
The official language of Bangladesh is Bangla. About 98% people of the country
speak in this language. Muslims are the majority of this country and it is the
third largest Muslim population in the world. Bangladesh achieved its independence
after a 9 month long bloody war in 1971. The capital city of Bangladesh is
Dhaka.
Bangladesh earns a large portion of its foreign currency as remittances, sent
by the expatriates from other parts of the world. The country hosts the world's
largest ship breaking yard in Chittagong. On the other hand, the Jamuna Bridge
is one of the longest bridges of South Asia.
Bangladesh is a member of the United Nations, Commonwealth of Nations, SAARC,
BIMSTED, OIC and the D-8. The country has made great improvement in the fields
of literacy, gender parity in schools and reducing their population growth over
the last few years.
